SOMeCA collectively advises about 200 registered student organizations. Listed below are the organizations that are currently registered for the 2018 - 2019 academic year. This list will be updated weekly. Organizations are grouped by the category that they register under.

    Academic

    Accounting Association

    It is a co-curriular student organization devoted to providing it’s members the opportunity to discover and experience the real world implications of an undergraduate accounting education through conference and community.

    Aspiring Physician Assistant Association (APAA) Committed to educating pre-physician assistant students about their future profession by organizing activities and providing mentor ship support. 
    Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) To bring together a cohesive community of computer science and related engineering majors.
    Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) - Women

    ACM --W chapter seeks to promote interest in computer science and other science and engineering-related disciplines. We aim to provide a strong sense of community to all female engineering students within the BSOE. 

    ChALE (Chicanxs, and, Latinxs Educandose) provides workshops and events to address the low rates of recruitment, retention, and graduation that the Chicanx/Latinx student community faces within the higher education.
    Chemistry Club

    The purpose of this club is to unite chemistry related majors through academic support, volunteering and research. 

    Cognitive Science Student Association

    Creating a community where people are interested in exploring and expanding the interdisciplinary major of cognitive science. 

    Hermanos Unidos de UCSC (HU) Hermanos Unidos is a Latino male-based familia designed to retain, empower, and educate ourselves. 
    Kuya Ate Mentorship Program (KAMP) KAMP is a student initiated and student led retention program that targets, but not exclusive to, the PilipinX community. 
    Model United Nations (SlugMUN) To provide those interested in international affairs, politics, public speaking, and competition with a platform to hone said interests and skills.
    National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) An academic honors society for the top 20% of freshman and sophomores that focuses on community service, professional development, and personal growth. 
    Slugs United by Mathematics (SUM) To bring together a community of like-minded peers interested in the subject of mathematics, and provide weekly group activities.
    Umoja

    The purpose of Umoja is to retain the Afrikan/Black/Caribbean community through social, cultural and academic support and programs.

    African American Theater Arts Troupe at UCSC (AATAT)

    AATAT is a student-based organization that serves as a vehicle to create unity, higher visibility and understanding of the African American culture here at the University of California Santa Cruz.

    African Student Union (ASU) We strive to increase awareness about the multiple African cultures/identities, eliminate stereotypical discernment of Africa + unite the African Community.
    American Sign Language Club (ASL Club) To promote interactions between UCSC hearing community and the Santa Cruz Deaf Community. Promote exchange of ASL with an acknowledgment and respect for Deaf Culture.
    Anak Bayan Santa Cruz (ABSC) Organize and mobilize the Filipino/Filipino-American community to pursue progressive politics in the US & human rights in the PI.,
    Armenian Student Association (ASA) To bring Armenians, and people interested in Armenian Culture, together to enjoy Armenian Culture and history.
    Asian American + Pacific Islander Student Alliance, APISA  Works towards building a strong Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Community by fostering critical consciousness of historical and ongoing struggles in API communities.
    Bayanihan Bayanihan is the Filipino / Pilipinx student association at UCSC that aims to provide a safe space on campus for all that are part of our community, and works to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of the Filipino and Pilipinx experience through various meetings and events throughout the year that explore our identity, history and culture.

    Although our organization is centered around Filipino and Pilipinx culture, we strive to be a cultural resource as well as to foster open forum based in mutual respect and understanding of our diverse community.
    Black Men's Alliance (BMA) To create a space where Black Men on campus can feel a sense of community and discuss topics that affect us in society. We strive to get more active in community service projects and continue to build a name for our organization. 
    Black Student Union; BSU To serve and retain ABC identifying students by fostering a safe space form educational, political, and self-growth pertaining to the Afriakn diaspora. 
    Black Womxn’s Alliance (BWA) Promote sisterhood and unity among black womxn on campus
    Centro Americanos Unidos (CAU) To educate ourselves and our community about the uniqueness and diversity found within Central American and Latinx cultures. #noborders
    Chinese Student Association (CSA)

    Aims to create a space for students to celebrate, promote, and spread awareness of Chinese culture. 
    Chinese Students & Scholars Association CSSA UCSC-CSSA is dedicated to fostering friendships in the Chinese community, promoting the interests, and awareness of chinese culture in the UCSC community while helping new students settle down quickly.
    Chinese Union at UCSC Seeking to promote Chinese culture and build stronger bonds with the UCSC Chinese-American community.
    Community Unified Student Network (CUSN)

    Providing a sense of community and promoting retention towards but not exclusive to, Asian American/Pacific Islander students on campus.

    Disability Student Union

    Advocate for disabled students on campus

    Grupo Folklorico Los Mejicas (Los Mejicas) The purpose of this organization shall be to present Mexican culture to the UCSC community and beyond through education and dance.
    Han Chinese Clothing Association Helps to promote the art style and culture of traditional Chinese through the traditional clothing and custom.
    Hermanas Unidas de UCSC (HaU) Hermanas Unidas provides undergraduate, graduate, and professional leadership opportunities and resources to predominately Latina/Chicana students by participating in academic, community service, and social networking events.
    Hindu Student Association (HSA) To educate about & celebrate Hindu culture.
    Indian Student Association (ISA) An organization dedicated to spread Indian cultural awareness, bringing communities together by promoting diversity and harmony. 
    Japanese Student Association (JSA) To provide a space and resource in which students can come together to learn and appreciate Japanese culture. 
    Korean American Student Association KASA Promote the unique and extraordinary Korean culture to students of all backgrounds and provide opportunities for fellowship, friendship and networking. 
    Mixed Ethnicities Student Headquarters (MESH)

    A space for those who identify as mixed-race, have ever felt the need to mark the “other” box, or want to discuss and learn about these and other related topics.

    Nepali Student Association (NSA) To help establish community.
    Oceania Navigators Empowerment (ONE) ONE's mission is to empower Oceanic students in order to navigate education through cultural preservation, equitable access, and retention by cultivating an AIGA (family)-based environment.
    Olive Tree Initiative The Olive Tree Initiative promotes conflict analysis and resolution through rigorous academic preparation, experiential education and leadership development.
    Out in STEM at UCSC (oSTEM)

    oSTEM at UCSC will bring quarterly seminars to UCSC that feature queer scientists; their research/position/industry job will be presented with a brief lunch, ending with a thirty minute presentation about personal experiences and obstacles faced as a queer scientist.

    Prism: Student Coalition for Gender, Sex, & Sexuality To politically represent LGBTQ+ students and provide a safe space for resources and events to the LGBTQ+ community.
    Queery To foster community within the queer community & host weekly dance workshops.
    Salsita Dance Group To provide and cultivate an open space that enables student’s retention through the appreciation of Latin American cultural dances.
    Student Parent Organization

    Our organization aims to support student-parents, promote advocacy, bridge the gap between on and off-campus parents and build community among student parents.

    Taiwanese Student Association (TSA) Promote an environment to Taiwanese students or anyone that’s interested in our culture. A place to make friends and feel like home.
    Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) Focuses on promoting Vietnamese culture and traditions through socializing events

    Education for Sustainable Living Program (ESLP) ESLP is a collaborative interdisciplinary effort to reshape the way we learn by supporting student-led sections and guest speakers during our spring class.
    Emergency Medical Slugs (EMS)

    We are dedicated to fostering a collegiate community, providing mentorship, and acting as a support network for students both certified or interested in certification as first responders.

    Sea Slugs at UCSC We provide opportunities for all students to engage in the greater Santa Cruz community through public service and environmental stewardship.
    Self Help, Seek Help

    To provide a safe place for students to talk about struggles and give them tools to help themselves too.

    Chapter of National Organization dedicated to raising awareness of mental health and suicide, trying to de-stigmatize the conversation surrounding mental health.

    Anthropology Society The Anthro Society is a student-run organization that connects those interested or study anthropology at UCSC.

    Exploring the cosmos and photographing what we find on the way.

    California Public Interest Research Group (CALPIRG) Runs grassroots campaigns to protect the public interest
    Cosplay Club To teach and assist with skills for costume making and presentation
    Discord Club Hangout with fellow slugs!
    Game Design and Art Collaborations (GDA) Organization devoted to gaining experience building games. Helps teach ideas of Game Design, Scope, sharing ideas, and collaboration. Devoted to making games.
    Kadence Keys

    Musical performance group dedicated to cultivating creativity through collaborating with our fellow musicians to create a unique groovy sound. 
    Medieval Club of UCSC Researching and recreating the arts and skills of pre-17th century Europe. 
    Santa Cruz Artificial Intelligence To promote an artificial intelligence community where students are given workshops and reasearch talks.
    Santa Cruz Fighting Game Community, (SCFGC) Host and organize video game tournaments, hangouts, and more for students. Build the super smach bros and FGC communites. 
    Slug Anime & Manga Association (S.A.M.A) The purpose of this club is to promote the understanding Japanese popular culture through the medium of its animation (anime)
    Slug Gaming To establish and support a friendly, welcoming community for both casual and competitive gamers at UC Santa Cruz. 
    Society of STEM Sisters

    To support and empower women in STEM.

    The Sports Economics Association (SEA)

    Alpha Kappa Psi Professional organization to foster future business leaders. 
    Alpha Phi Omega Alpha Phi Omega is a national co-ed service fraternity that brings together boys and girls through leadership, friendship, and service. 
    Alpha Psi Sorority Local organization dedicated to establishing and maintaining a sisterhood of women encouraging personal and social development while striving for academic excellence. 
    College Panhellenic  To advance womens organizations of the National Panhellenic conference and their commitment to personal growth of 3 organizations. 
    Delta Sigma Pi Co-ed business professional fraternity giving students an opportunity to build upon thier professional self. 
    Delta Sigma Theta (DST) Sisterhood, Scholarship, and community service with an emphasis in serving the Black Community.
    Gamma Phi Beta Our mission is to inspire the highest type of womanhood. 
    Inter Greek Council (IGC) Inter-Greek Council aims to provide support to each Greek organization on campus, as well as promote unity between every organization. 
    Kappa Alpha Theta  Established on January 27, 1870, Kappa Alpha Theta was the very first Greek-letter fraternity for women and newest fraternity at UCSC. 
    Kappa Gamma Delta To assist female college students in the pre-medical process. To encourage development of leadership, communication skills, and maturing. To provide support academically, socially, and emotionally. 
    Kappa Kappa Gamma (KKG) Kappa Kappa Gamma is an organization to support women socially, academically, and to encourage philanthropy. To strengthen the bonds of sisterhood. 
    Kappa Zeta We are a local, multicultural sorority, whose philanthropy emphasizes supporting women and children in the Santa Cruz Community. 
    Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. (LTA) The purpose of Lambda Theta Alpha is to provide a sisterhood based on unity, love and respect in an effort to create strong leaders who are involved in political, social and cultural
    Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Form a strong bond uniting students to advance the ideals of liberty and equal justice under law. To guide students in pursuing a legal career. 
    Pi Alpha Phi Pi Alpha Phi is currently on interim suspension by the University. Student organizations on interim suspension are prohibited from participating in University activities. Brotherhood, Leadership, Academic Excellence, Asian Awareness, Philanthropy 
    Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi

    A Jewish sorority dedicated to providing a safe space where sisters feel empowered and supported while inspiring a love for the Jewish culture. 
    Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc.  To nurture and further a dynamic, valued environment which utilizes our historically multicultural latino based fraternity as a catalyst to better serve the needs and wants of all people. 
    Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc. Latina-based, now multicultural Greek Organization that is committed to promoting womyn empowerment in our community and the world. 
    Sigma Mu Delta The purpose of Sigma Mu Delta at the University of California at Santa Cruz is to unify pre-medical undergraduates in brotherhood dedicated to academic excellence, as well as providing a motivational & inspirational atmosphere, which matures and strengthens the character of each brother.
    Sigma Omicron Pi , SOPi To promote unity, friendship, leadership, service, and Asian-American Awareness in our community. 
    Sigma Phi Zeta Fraternity The multicultural Greek organization that emphasizes on cultural endeavors, academic excellence, brotherhood, and philanthropic. 
    Sigma Pi Alpha Sorority The purpose of SIgma Pi Alpha Sorority, Inc. is to provide a safe space and support system for womyn of different cultural backgrounds to help them success academically and enrich their campus involvement. 
    Sigma Pi Fraternity International United in Brotherhood to advance truth & justice, promote scholarship, encourage chivalry, and diffuse culture.
    Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) A social fraternity that strives to be better men for a better world by building strong moral boundaries based around our 3 pillars of love, charity and esteem. 
    Theta Pi Sigma  All gendered Greek organization, provide educational and community for LGBTQIA+ and Greek community. 
    Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Interest A community conscious action oriented organization that believes & strives to fulfill principles or scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood.

  • Media - Broadcast

    Banana Slug News (BSN) Banana Slug News is UCSC’s only on-campus news broadcast organization. Students interested in any aspect of broadcast and film production, or news journalism have the opportunity to practice and be exposed to those skills with BSN.
    Film Production Coalition (FPC) Tackling the challenges of short film and documentary filmmaking, the Film Production Coalition aims to provide students with the opportunities to work in groups to create short narrative or documentary films. Students involved in FPC achieve hands-on experience with a wide variety of aspects attributed to the filmmaking process.
    On the Spot (OTS) From writing and acting to producing and editing, On The Spot (OTS) does it all. OTS strives to provide quality entertainment programming, while offering students hands-on experience with television production. OTS is a student-run broadcast organization that produces numerous television shows including sketch-comedy shows, music videos, and psychological thrillers.
    Slug Works Animation Students that would like experience making animations with a fun group of people should join Slugworks! We currently create 1-3 animations a year and have a group of 8 people. We work with all forms of animation, from 2D to 3D to stop motion. Slugworks started in March of 2015 with SOAR and joined SCTV in Fall of 2016. As one of SCTV’s newest organizations, we are proud to stand alongside other content creators as animators. We hope to keep expanding and creating in the future! More members are always welcome!
    Student Cable Television (SCTV) Housing all four of Student Media’s broadcast and film production organizations under one roof, SCTV exposes students to a plethora of diverse production organizations ranging from comedy television shows to short films. The autonomous student-led organizations strive to expose students interested in any aspect of film and television production with hands-on experience.

  • Media - Print

    Alay Housed under UCSC’s Filipino Student Association, Alay is an original student publication comprised of written and visual art, submitted by community members to promote student artwork and expression.
    Chinquapin Chinquapin is the longest running student governed literary magazine at UCSC. This organization annually publishes fiction, non-fiction, prose, poetry, art and photography from students and alumni.
    City on a Hill Press City on a Hill Press (CHP) is dedicated to reporting and analyzing the issues affecting the student population. CHP serves as watchdogs for the politics of the UC administration and works on covering unreported events, ideas and voices. The campus paper also provides a space for Santa Cruz residents to present their views and interact with the campus community. Ideally, CHP’s work will serve as an arena for debate, challenge, and ultimately, change.
    EyeCandy Devoted to the study and publication of television, digital media, and film criticism, the EyeCandy Journal provides students with an opportunity to engage with and research media-related issues they are passionate about. The journal creates a more creative and personal outlet for students to write academic film criticism that goes beyond the scope of traditional Film and Digital Media courses.
    Fishrap Live! Fish Rap Live! is a comedic newspaper which publishes every three weeks, reminiscent in style to The Onion.
    Fruitcake Fruitcake Magazine is a student-run, annually published comic magazine with a sprinkle of humorous fiction! We’re dedicated to providing a space for students to express their thoughts and experiences through the comic format.
    Gaia Gaia Magazine is the student-run environmental magazine, which aims to provide coverage of sustainability-related initiatives on or linked to the UCSC campus as well as the broader community. Gaia strives to practice the sustainability it promotes, and is printed locally on recycled paper using soy-based ink. It is published annually in the spring, and welcomes submissions from UCSC students.
    Kalopsia Kalopsia is an undergraduate philosophy journal based in the University of California, Santa Cruz. Dedicated to the seeking of truth, beauty, and their potential disjunction, Kalopsia accepts visual art, poetry, and philosophical papers that demonstrate this pursuit. It is a space for UCSC undergraduates to display their scholarship, learn from their peers, and become a part of a shared academic experience. All topics of inquiry are welcome, and undergraduates from all disciplines are encouraged to submit their work.
    Leviathan Jewish Journal Leviathan is a student-run, quarterly publication at the University of California Santa Cruz. We publish articles, columns, stories and artwork from students pertaining to the Jewish community and experience.
    Matchbox Magazine Matchbox Magazine is a UC-wide collaborative creative writing project. The magazine publishes prose, poetry, and art created by students throughout the UC system, and distributes copies of their magazine to the literature departments at each UC School.
    Red Wheelbarrow Red Wheelbarrow is a student-run literary journal based on the University of California, Santa Cruz campus. We publish annually and serve the UCSC community by providing a free publication that showcases student art, poetry, and prose.
    Scientific Slug Scientific Slug is a student-run magazine that connects artists, writers, and scientists/researchers to communicate current research at UCSC. Combining diverse writing pieces and original artwork in a variety of mediums, our goal is to bridge the gap between students and scientists. Students of different majors come together to both educate and entertain the community. We publish a printed magazine twice a year, and run a weekly blog.
    Third World and Native American Student Press Collective (TWANAS) The Third World and Native American Students Press Collective (TWANAS) is an activist publication that works to change and engage the UCSC community through their journalism. The visions and goals of TWANAS are to: provide a space to exchange and challenge media that is created; publish meaningful articles that humanize issues and representations of people in the popular media; and acknowledge and embrace the inspiration and commitment to social justice.

    To create a welcoming space for musicians and to nurture the musical talent of UCSC. 

    Cloud 9 A Capella

    To maintain a high quality singing group and spread a cappella music throughout California.

    Comedy Joust CJ To perform and practice the art of improvisation.
    Cultural Arts & Diversity CAD Bringing multicultural theater productions and workshops to the UC Santa Cruz campus while helping maintain the Rainbow Theater and African American Theater Arts Troupe.
    Fighting Slugs Marching Band (FSMB) To promote school spirit!
    Haluan Competitive hip hop team housed under Bayanihan
    The Hightones

    The Hightones are UCSC’s only all-female a cappella group and aim to unite and heal the community through music. 

    Isang Himig Multi Cultural A Cappella This multicultural a cappella group is rooted in Bayanihan. Isang Himig translates to one melody in tagalog and is composed of passionate and talented individuals whose goals are to create community and diversity through music.
    Kahaani We are a competitive co-ed Bollywood Dance Team that consists of talented dancers striving to express their love for Bollywood dance which includes styles such as modern, classical, contemporary, and hip hop.
    Kasama Ballroom Dance Troupe Ballroom dance team for Bayanihan members.
    N&S A pop-rock band play rhythmic pop music and explosive rock music. We welcome everyone to join us and offer lovely group roles.
    Pagkakaisa Dance Troupe (PDT) To engage in Pilipino culture through traditional folk dance performances
    Peach Perfect at UCSC Offering a stage and communication chance for students who have music dreams.
    People Power  The acting improve troupe under Bayanihan
    Popreka Our aim is to spread our love of K-Pop and dance within the university. We want to have an environment where people are not afraid to express themselves and their love for K-Pop.
    Rainbow Theatre

    Rainbow Theatre casts a collection of diverse actors for a multifaceted 3 week long production of plays dealing with issues pertaining to identity and society primarily through performing arts.  

    Sabrosura Latin Dance Troupe To spread the Latin American and Caribbean cultures/rituals through the art of dance.
    Sequoia Singers Contribute to the music scene at UC Santa Cruz with a focus on having fun in a creative environment.
    Slugs in Fishnets To recreate the Rocky Horror Picture Show live in front of the film for a student audience
    Taza Tal To celebrate South Asian Fine Arts and promote diversity through music.
    Traditional East Asian Music & Rockband (TEA & R) To promote East Asian traditional music as well as to experiment new ways to combine music from Western and Eastern music to give people an extraordinary cultural experience.

    Banana Slugs for Animals

    Aims to educate UCSC’s student body about animal advocacy through educational events and community bonding. 
    College Democrats at UCSC  Educate students about the nature of the United States political system and the Democratic Party platform, register voters, assist in the election of the local, state and national officials. 
    College Diabetes Network at UCSC (CDN)

    To support the diabetes community.

    College Republicans  To meet and host events for the purpose of discussing current events and politics. 
    Movimiento Estudiantil ChicanX de Aztlan (MEChA) A political organization that strives for the betterment and support of the Chicanx/Latinx community on the UCSC campus & surrounding of-campus communities. 
    Platypus Affiliated Society (PAS) To promote the discussion of leftist politics on campus.
    Slugs for Israel

    Slugs for Israel is a pro-Israel, pro-peace student organization aiming to encourage dialogue on the culture, history and the politics of Israel. 

    Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) Works in solidarity for the liberation and respect of Indigenous Palestine. Committed to ending Israel's occupation and colonization as well as other imperialist powers.
    Students for Sensible Drug Policy at UCSC (SSDP) We focus on education, harm reduction, and political activism to end the harms of the war on drugs.
    VietUnity Santa Cruz (VUSC)

    Vietunity Santa Cruz is a collective of Vietnamese-identifying organizers and activists committed to the struggle for global peace, justice, and self determination against systems of oppression. 

    Young Americans for Liberty at UCSC Our mission is to identify, educate, and train youth to spread the fundamental principles of liberty, casting the leaders of tomorrow, and reclaim out government.

    American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Provide guidance and support system for pre-med students on UCSC campus. 
    Aspiring Nursing Students Association (ANSA) To create a community of students interested in nursing while providing support and guidance for the next steps after graduation.
    Entrepreneurship Club

    To make entrepreneurs reach their full potential by assigning mentors to them, hosting entrepreneur speaker events, and going to other entrepreneur events.

    Gesher Group, Gesher, GG Gesher Group is a student-run business consulting group aiming o bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace.
    Mock Trial at UCSC To teach students basic skills and principles of law and compete against other schools in a trial setting
    Morning Sign Out (MSO) Aiming to bridge the gap between the world medicine and science and that of the general public by providing resources, guidance, and support about biomedical news, research, scheduling, pre-health events, and volunteering opportunities. 
    National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) To increase professional development among student engineers.
    Pre-Law Society at UCSC To provide legal resources to students interested in a legal career.
    Pre-SOMA (Students of Osteopathic Medical Association) Pre-SOMA is a pre-health organization that is geared towards helping all pre-health students succeed with an emphasis on education about and promoting osteopathic medicine.
    Santa Cruz Women in Business (SCWIB) To inspire and empower women in business to achieve success in their careers and field.
    Slugs Fund Investment Group, SFIG We hope to provide an educational and experimental environment for anyone interested in Finance and Stocks.
    Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) SASE is dedicated to the advancement of Asian heritage scientists and engineers in education and employment so that they can achieve their full career potential.

    Acts 2 Christian Fellowship We are a Christian fellowhsip on campus that seeks to share and experience God’s love together on campus. We meet for bible study, church on Sundays and weekly events. 
    Christians on Campus at UCSC Have weekly bible studies and pursue the truth, fellowship and life lessons. 
    Klesis Christian Fellowship (Klesis) To build a community of believers based on the Acts 2 church. To host bible studies and answer questions people may have about God!
    Muslim Student Association (MSA) The Muslim Student Association at the University of California Santa Cruz is dedicated to spreading truth and awareness about the real, peaceful message of Islam, and creating a safe and supportive environment for Muslims on campus - as well as every person of good will to come together and connect. 
    SGI: World Peace Buddhist

    To help students unlock their inner potential and achieve creative harmony with their environment through the philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism in the SGI-USA, transform the challenges of daily life into sources of growth and fulfillment and become a positive influence in their environment, and actively contribute to the develop of peace, education and society.

    Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) To gather dedicated members to help eliminate cancer by  working to implement the programs and mission of the American Cancer Society.
